We're rolling out a new set of updates to Choir Genius, with fixes and improvements across attendance, registrations, email communications, payments, and more.

This rollout will begin on Sunday, October 25, after 7 PM Pacific Time. The rollout will take some time to complete, so changes may not all be available immediately.

This release focuses on making everyday tasks smoother, resolving reported issues, and improving the reliability of several key features.

Events & Attendance

  • Smoother attendance note editing: Notes now save reliably with a single click of the checkmark or when clicking outside the field. Moving directly between notes is smoother, without unexpected interruptions.

  • Simplified leave requests for administrators: Administrators no longer need to enter a note when requesting leave on behalf of a member. Members requesting leave themselves will still be asked to provide a note.

  • Improved attendance navigation: When updating attendance, the table now maintains your page and scroll position rather than returning to the beginning.

  • Mobile attendance buttons: Accept and Deny buttons now work correctly on smaller screens, including phones in portrait orientation.

  • Event links in calendar subscriptions: Links in downloaded or subscribed calendar files now point to the correct event pages.

  • Links in event notes: Links configured to open in a new window will retain that setting when event notes are edited and saved.

  • Attendance approval counts: The dashboard now counts only the attendance requests available for review on the Manage Attendance page.

Registrations

  • Registration track permissions: Managers with permission to manage registrations can now create, view, and edit registration tracks without encountering an Access Denied error.

  • Monthly registration processing: Registrations associated with active monthly subscriptions now complete correctly, including sending the appropriate registration confirmation emails. Previously affected registrations will also be corrected, although older welcome emails will not be sent retroactively.

  • Protection for completed registrations: Returning to a registration summary page after payment will no longer reset its status or inadvertently make it available for checkout again.

Email & Communications

  • Personalized bulletins: Name tokens such as %recipient.first_name% now display correctly when bulletins are viewed on the website or in the mobile app, not just when received by email.

  • Improved email delivery tracking: Failed, delayed, suppressed, and unsubscribed email statuses are now identified more clearly. Where available, additional details from the email provider will help explain delivery failures.

  • Email template styles: Custom email styles created by your group are now available in the email template style selector.

  • Public inbox links: The "View on Website" link in public inbox notifications now opens the correct message thread for authorized members.

  • Form notification links: The "Manage Forms" link in form notification emails now directs administrators to the correct management page.

  • Email test messages: Improvements to test email handling prevent disruption to existing reply threads, with better validation of attachment types and sizes.

Store & Payments

  • Store checkout without Stripe: Groups can now use the Choir Genius store without connecting a Stripe account, allowing them to manage transactions using cash, store credit, or payments collected outside the system. When Stripe is not connected, checkout will no longer display unavailable card payment options or depend on card processor screens. Instead, members can complete checkout using the available offline payment options, with payment collected separately as needed.

  • Improved payment method settings: To support stores operating without Stripe, payment screens and settings now display only the options available to the member. This provides a clearer checkout experience for groups accepting payments outside Choir Genius.

  • Refunded merchandise: Refunded items that have not yet been delivered will now be marked correctly and removed from outstanding delivery lists.

  • Purchase notifications: Duplicate purchase notification emails caused by repeated payment confirmations have been addressed, so each completed order generates only one notification.

  • Voided invoices: Items associated with voided invoices now move to a canceled status, allowing completed orders to close correctly.

Music Library

  • Cleaner music exports: Music exports now separate the title from composer, arranger, and other people information, making exported data easier to work with.

  • PDF viewing: Opening a different music PDF will now display the selected file, even if the PDF viewer is already open.

Member Management & Mobile App

  • Member biographies: The "Read More" link on the Manage People page now expands biographies correctly, including those containing accented characters or emojis.

  • Custom profile fields: Managers and administrators can now view and edit fields previously designated as admin-only. These fields are now labelled "Managers and admins only" for clarity.

  • Mobile app People directory: Fixed an issue that could prevent the People directory from loading when no leadership account sets were configured.

Public Websites & General Improvements

  • Responsive public site navigation: Longer navigation menus now adapt more effectively to smaller screens, wrapping where appropriate and switching to a Menu button when space is limited. This helps keep important links, including Log in, accessible.

  • Clearer date entry messages: Date fields now provide clearer guidance about the required format. Invalid dates display helpful messages instead of technical errors, including in report filters.

What You Need to Know

Most of these improvements will be available automatically, with no action required.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • If a link in an event's notes previously lost its "open in new window" setting, you may need to set that option again.

  • Existing calendar subscriptions will pick up corrected event links when they refresh. Previously downloaded calendar files will not be updated.

  • Some existing store orders and registrations will be corrected automatically as part of normal processing.

As always, thank you to the Choir Genius community for your feedback and for helping us identify opportunities to improve the platform.
