Migrating from CG3 to CG4 (Licensing & Timing)

Moving from CG3 to CG4 happens in two separate phases:

  1. Start a CG4 trial (while you set up your new site)

  2. Complete your migration (when you are ready to fully switch over)

This guide explains how licensing works across both phases.

Phase 1: Start Your CG4 Trial

To begin, simply sign up for a CG4 trial. This allows you to build and configure your new site while your CG3 site remains active.

Important:
CG3 and CG4 are completely separate systems and do not sync.

During this phase:

  • Your CG4 trial is manually managed by our team

  • Your CG4 timing is aligned with your CG3 renewal date

If Your CG3 License Renews During Setup

If your CG3 site renews while you are still working on CG4:

  • Contact support

  • We will extend your CG4 trial so you can continue setting up without interruption

Be sure to check out the Migration Checklist for guidance on moving all your site data

Phase 2: Complete Your Migration to CG4

You only enter this phase when your chorus is fully ready to move to CG4.

👉 At this point, contact support to complete your migration

What Happens When You Complete Migration

License Transfer

  • Any remaining paid time on your CG3 license will be converted into a
monetary credit on your CG4 site

CG3 Site Decommissioning

  • Your CG3 site will be:

    • Shut down

    • Placed in a 2-week holding period (inaccessible)

    • Permanently deleted after that period

Domain & Public Site Setup

At the time of migration:

  • You may move your CG4 site to a custom domain

  • Your public site should be ready to go live

Important notes:

  • Your choirgenius.com subdomain will no longer work if you switch to a custom domain

  • Users will need to log in again under the new url in the app if your domain changes

Important: This Process Is Manual

Nothing in the migration process happens automatically.

👉 You must contact support to:

  • Complete your migration

  • Transfer licensing value

  • Coordinate domain and site changes

We strongly recommend reaching out ahead of time to schedule your transition.

Summary

  • Start by signing up for a CG4 trial (no impact on CG3)

  • Set up your CG4 site while continuing to use CG3

  • When ready, contact support to complete migration

  • Remaining CG3 license value transfers as credit

  • CG3 site is deleted after a 2-week holding period

  • Domain changes require users to log in again

If you’re not sure whether you’re ready to complete your migration, reach out—we can help you time it properly.

Reminder: Be sure to take your site out of Setup Mode when you're ready for your members to login!
